Hello Everyone!
Happy New Year to you and your families!
To acknowledge the importance of families in our lives, I am kicking off 2012 with a special Family Portraits post! Several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph the family of Mr. Nusser, a former high school teacher. His wife was looking for a photographer who could capture their family (aka their two young boys) in action.
Background info: A visit to a studio had not suited the boys, and the photos had not turned out as well as she had hoped, with them crying and refusing to be posed by the photographer in formal settings.
Enter Sison Photography: I tagged along as their family took a walk in Downtown Tacoma and, after about an hour of paparazzi-style photography, got the shots of the boys against the backdrop of all their brilliant personalities, and even had time to reminisce of old times!
Reminiscing about old times: Not too long ago I was in Mr. Nusser's Journalism class eating cafeteria food in the back of the newsroom and writing feature stories for the next deadline; forward a few years and I am running around Tacoma chasing two of his very energetic boys with my camera and quietly wondering what my future children will be like!
Life is never at a standstill. Sometimes, I become very aware of how much I've grown and how much I've stayed the same by the people who come and go in my life. This was such a moment. When I was still a student in Mr. Nusser's class, his wife had not yet even given birth to their firstborn. Now, here she was with two little men dancing about her feet and baby #3 coming. It comforts me to know that as we move forward in time, we are not only making memories with people we cherish, but also making space for personal growth and place for new adventures.
Now, for your treat: In an effort to further personalize my photo sessions, I asked my clients if they would be interested in writing captions for their own photos. They agreed. Under each photo you will find captions written not by me but by one of my clients.
The following captions were especially written by Sarah Nusser
Sarah: Family picture including soon-to-be baby Nusser #3. Joshua and Trystian were conspiring on the plan to take over the world
Sarah: Joshua was excited to hang out with his new friend Mimi. So what if she had a camera he was just excited to have a captive audience
Sarah: The Garages in Tacoma. Really cool place to take pictures. Also an amazing restoration project of Tacoma that had been run into the ground. Joshua and Trystian were running around like CRAZY people
Sarah: Awww the boys. Mimi did a great job capturing them at times they weren't ready, giving it a fun feel
Sarah: And the captive audience I spoke of. I am pretty sure he was in full ZOMBIE mode at this point. Mimi had to follow him to try to capture him when he wasn't in zombie pose.
Sarah: Trystian had taken his shoes off when he decided he was cold (no that is not supposed to make any sense) and this was one of the few where he wasn't crying. Way to go Mimi. Great attention to detail capturing shots between a 2 and 4 year olds agenda
Sarah: Ahhh he finds peace in his mom's arms
Sarah: The family picture. For those of you thinking about having children this might be the extent of a family shot. We were all in it. ;-)
Sarah: Jeff has a special touch with him. We finally got a smile out of this camera shy little man
Sarah:
Sarah: Yup, cold feet. It was freezing that day and Trystian was insisting he needed his shoes --- and socks OFF
Sarah: This kid loves to give kisses. Can't turn down such an adorable little man
Thank you, Sarah! You are blessed with a fantastic family and beautiful young boys. I truly enjoyed this shoot, and look forward to receiving more special photography assignments such as this one!
